

A native of Frederick, Rose is the daughter of the late Emerson & Ethel Dorsey, the sister to Iva and Emerson Jr. Rose has one son, Brian and 3 grandchildren; Kiarah, Tyler and Blair, of whom she affectionately refers to as her pride & joy.
Rose attended Lincoln School for 9 years, and then integrated to Frederick High school where she would graduate. Rose received her BS in Art Education from Morgan State University and went on to teach Elementary Art for 34 years in Frederick County Public Schools. Retired in 2004, Rose is now a member of Frederick County Retired Teachers Association.

In 2009 BlackFrederick.com announced the naming of it's Unsung Hero Award to honor community activist Rodney Pulliam, who tragically lost his life, along with his three sons, in 2002. To honor the eternal spirit of Mr. Pulliam's philanthropy, love for God and passion for others, BlackFrederick.com will honor his name by honoring those who embody that spirit of caring for this community.
A native of Frederick, Maryland, John is the son of Ruth Virginia Onley and the late Robert Allen Onley Sr. John has one brother, Robert Allen Onley, Jr. and three sisters, Jane Onley Brewer, Mary Onley Hoy and Martha Fisher (deceased). John is married to the lovely Nancy DeMar Onley. They were blessed with three children, John Jr., Brian and Candace and three adorable grandchildren, De’Von, Anaya and Brianna. John is a graduate of Lincoln High School class of 1961 and attended Morgan State University.

In 2009 BlackFrederick.com saw the need to celebrate the youth of our community as well and as a result introduced the Rising Star Award to celebrate the contributions of youth to our community. It wasn't hard to determine that Bernetta R. Brown's spirit was the right choice to make.

Gayon Sampson was born on April 16, 1993 in Frederick, MD. He is the son of Trinity and Juwan Dorsey; and Garfield Sampson III and is the eldest son of three siblings (Gionni, Anazje, Jakera). Gayon is a sophomore who attends Tuscarora High School and is actively involved, belonging to various clubs and activities including President of the Sophomore Class, Treasure of Tuscarora’s SGA, Assistant Secretary of the Neck Tie Club, Member of Model United Nations, and Ambassadors Club, all while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.09.
In 2012 BlackFrederick.com will award the first Albert V. Dixon Icon Award to honor those who have paved the way. The Icon Award will be named for and to a community member that has shown exemplary courage and determination in making a way for others.
